Excursion

Focus of the excursion is all the text-based materials that are used to communicate, to mediate and to review an art exhibition. The example to work collectively on is a short-term exhibition project titled MATTER OF TIME. It will take place from 9 to 11 April 2020 in Sidi Bou Said, Tunisia.

TASAWAR Curatorial Studios are a one-year post-graduate study program on art in context hosted by the GOETHE-INSITUTE in Tunis. The program is directed by German curator Bettina Pelz and coordinated by Emily Sarsam of the GOETHE-INSTITUTE Tunis.

The TASAWAR Collective is a group of students and alumni/ae of the TASAWAR Curatorial Studios, jointly they curate the exhibition project. Further info on tasawar.net.

The MATTER OF TIME International Art Exhibition Project is the first exhibition program realized at the grounds of the cultural heritage site ENNEJMA EZZAHRA in Sid Bou Said, north of Tunis. It will focus on time as artistic material and medium. Further info on mot.tasawar.net

The goal of the excursion is to provide a critical review of the project MATTER OF TIME by the TASAWAR Collective in a written form. Exercises and training for HfK students will include writing about artistic concepts and artworks, interviews of artists and curators to be summarized in a text form, reviewing curatorial concepts in a written form, and research of contexts, the Tunisian art scene, socio-cultural settings and sociopolitical environments. Part of the exercises will be for individuals, part of them will be collective ones.

HfK students who want to participate in the exhibition program have to apply with a project description and a portfolio to Bettina Pelz. Participation in the excursion program does not grant automatic access to the exhibition program. The students accepted to bring their artworks will have to take part in the HUB, a meeting point for all participating artists, curators and art mediators. As well, they will have to take part in one of the public artists’ talks. In both formats, they will be asked to present their artistical research, their way of working and the work being part of the exhibition.

HfK students who want to support the local production team are welcome. Please inform Bettina Pelz. HfK students who want to join the art mediation program to be a site or a tour guide have to apply with a letter of motivation and a portfolio to Bettina Pelz.
